Academic Excellence series honors students and faculty

CLARION, Pa – The seventh annual Academic Excellence Series kicked off this week, starting on Sunday, April 15 running through Sunday, April 22.

This week-long series of events and ceremonies, which recognizes students from both Clarion and Venango campuses, is put on to “honor faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students on the research and academic endeavors that they have completed throughout the academic year,” according to the university’s website.

CLARION, Pa. – When students arrive at college for their freshmen year, they are required to live in on-campus housing.

As students move through the college ranks, they generally want to live off campus.  Living off campus can be a stressful process for students who are not familiar with the rental process and such items as leases, utilities and security deposits.

It was a tale of two matches for the Clarion women’s tennis team, as it split the final two matches of the season over the weekend.

The Golden Eagles dominated in their final home match, with a 9-0 shutout of Geneva College on Thursday, April 12.

Clarion softball splits double-header with Salem International

As part of the Clarion University softball team’s Breast Cancer Awareness week, the Golden Eagles faced off in a double-header matchup against Salem International University on Monday, April 9.

Clarion split the double-header, winning the first game 6-3, but faltering in game two by the slight margin of one run, 6-7.

CLARION, Pa. – Presentations of poetry, cinematic literature and the mapping of dialect throughout Western Pennsylvania were themes featured at the Clarion University Spring Honors Colloquium on Monday, April 9.

Hosted by honors program Associate Director, Brent Register, the colloquium was held in Hart Chapel at 7 p.m.

Students learn history of Cook Forest

CLARION, Pa – Alyssa McGinnis, a service member with AmeriCorps, gave a presentation on Cook Forest and Clear Creek State Parks Monday evening in the Joseph Grunenwald Science and Technology Center.

The presentation was part of the Earth Day Series sponsored by the Bios Club.

Clarion’s Veights sinks first hole-in-one in school history during match

The Golden Eagle women’s golf team finished second out of eight teams at the Westminster Invitational held at New Castle Country Club this past Monday, April 9.

The Eagles were led by senior Samantha Veights, who finished fourth overall in the tournament, shooting a 90.

Baseball struggles continue: Offense lacking consistency

The Clarion Golden Eagles baseball team dropped a pair of double-headers last week as struggles continued.

Clarion (8-22 overall, 5-11 PSAC) has shown inconsistent offensive numbers this season.

The Golden Eagles, who put nine runs on the board in the first game of a home stand against the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans on Friday, April 6, could not match that total for the three later contests against the Vulcans.

CLARION, Pa – During the Student Senate meeting on Monday, April 9, Treasurer Mark Liberto announced the Recognized Student Organization’s budget recommendations were sent out to the organizations.

Lending an ear: university hosts ‘My Voice Counts’ panel to address student budget concerns

CLARION, PA – Several faculty and students lined a panel designed for answering students’ questions regarding how Clarion University will deal with budget cuts during the “My Voice Counts” forum held Monday, April 2.

The panelists for the event included: President of Faculty Senate and Professor Mark Franchino, Provost Ronald Nowaczyk, Vice President of Student Affairs Harry Tripp, representative from the department of Budget and Financial Planning Rhonda Clinger, Student Senate President Joanna Catalano and Vice President of Clarion Student Association Darren Young.

They continue to struggle, this time losing three out of four games to Slippery Rock University.

Clarion fell to 6-16 and 5-7 in the PSAC West.

Clarion finishes 15th in Camp Lejeune Invitational

Clarion University’s Men’s Golf team, led by the valiant efforts of senior Ross Pringle, finished in 15th place at the Camp LeJeune Invitational at Paradise Point, N.C.
32 teams from across the nation met for tournament play.

Methodist University and its star golfer, Dakung Chang, led the pack throughout the weekend, finishing in a lofty first place, above perennial powerhouses Oglethrope University and Lee University.

CLARION, PA – Student organizations made their presence known at the Student Senate on Monday evening.

Representatives from VizArtZ and the Anime Club spoke during the open forum to express  thanks to the senate for funds for their trips.

Women’s tennis drops the ball

The Golden Eagles women’s tennis team (7-6 overall, 1-3 PSAC West) struggled this past weekend, going 1-3 in their matches.

In Thursday, March 29 match against Grove City College, the ball just wouldn’t bounce Clarion’s way, as Grove City came out with a 7-2 victory.
