Tennis falls to Mercyhurst
Clarion’s Women’s Tennis team fell to Mercyhurst College on Wednesday with a final score of 8-1.
Clarion’s only point came on a win from Haylee Gardner at No. 1 singles, defeating Mercyhurst’s Meghan Raynor in a tiebreaker match with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

In other singles play No. 1 Jaclyn Metzger fell to Mercyhurst’s Kim Ezzo with a score of 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 Megan Parsons fell to Rebecca Haener with a score of 6-3, 6-3 while Mercyhurst’s Jenna Raynor defeated Devin Rombach at No. 4 with a score of 3-6, 8-4, 10-1.
Natalie Iovino defeated Michaela Hardy 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while at No. 6 Courtney Conway defeated Lauren Eonta 6-1, 6-0. In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Ezzo and M. Raynor defeated Metzger and Rombach with a score of 8-1. Haener and J. Raynor def. Parsons and Gardner with a score of 8-4 at No. 2, and Maria Iovino and Conway defeated Hardy and Alysia Sturdivant at No. 3 with a score of 8-2.

This past Saturday the Netters defeated PSU-Behrend on the road with a final score of 6-3.
Clarion swept all three doubles matches as the No. 1 team of Metzger and Devin Rombach defeated Arica Christman and Allison Quigley 8-6, Gardner and Parsons defeated Hillary Lasher and Leslie Durante 8-2, and the No. 3 team of Alysia Sturdivant and Elissa Swartz and Jade Buhite 8-1.
In singles play the Eagles Jaclyn Metzger defeated Christman 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1; Gardner defeated Lasher 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.
“This was a big win for us today,” said Clarion head coach Lori Sabatose.
“Our ladies played well today, but I was especially pleased with our win at number one doubles. That was quite a match.”
Clarion returns to action on April 2, when the Golden Eagles take on IUP at home.
