Softball seniors honored
Clarion University senior Lindsay Vevers pitched in the Eagles’ game against IUP this past weekend.
Clarion University seniors Caitlin Lamison and Lindsay Vevers were both honored at the Golden Eagles’ game on Saturday.
In game one of the doubleheaders, the Eagles battled hard against the Crimson Hawks, but a sixth inning home run broke open a 1-1 game and eventually led to a 4-1 Hawk win.
Suzie Denillo hit a single for Clarion.
In game two, Clarion played just as hard, and got it going from the plate.
Marissa Myers had two hits. Corinna Sternthal, Rebecca Lynch and Lauren Martino also had base hits for the Eagles.
Clarion Coach Nancy Smoose said she thought her “team battled a tough IUP team, but just could not score runs.”
The Eagles’ season came to an end with two disappointing losses to Gannon on Sunday.
Game one ended 9-1. Carlie Cook and Katie Baun both had singles in the game.
Denillo scored the lone Golden Eagle run off an RBI by Sternthal.
In game two, Clarion just couldn’t get going.
Coach Smoose said the team “struggled to hit the ball” and that the team “was disappointed in their performance.”
For the year, Clarion finished 5-33. When asked about the season as a whole Smoose was optimistic and said, “Even though we did not have very many wins this season we had a lot of positive thing happen.”
“We only graduate two players and have an excellent recruiting class coming in,” Smoose said.
