As of Sept. 12, the Clarion women’s soccer team holds a record of 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division.

The team competes against teams from all over Pennsylvania including, Seton Hill, Pitt-Johnstown, Lake Erie, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Edinboro, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock.

A couple other teams the women will be playing in the near future are Lock Haven and West Chester.

“We have a lot of good teams in our conference and I think we are right up there with them, but our record just doesn’t show it,” said Gina Shero.

On September 8 the Golden Eagles took on Mercyhurst at Memorial Stadium.

About six minutes into the game, Jamie Lsturell received a pass from Jamie Schroter, and sent the ball into the goal.

Taylor Hilinski added one more goal in the second half to hold onto the win for Mercyhurst.

Clarion had one shot credited to Jordan Daloisio and one to Crystal Miller during the game. Jenna Kulik made five saves for Clarion.

The team travelled to Slippery Rock’s Egli Field on Saturday hoping to get back on the winning track.

There was a slow start in this aggressive game, with only eight total shots in the first half.

Both Clarion and Slippery Rock received seven fouls each during the half.

The second half brought a little more action. Slippery Rock totaled ten shots while Clarion had four.

Erin White and Jordan Daloisio led Clarion with two shots each. Other players who registered a shot were Jill Miller, Crystal Miller and Lindsay Thill.

Clarion had five fouls this half, while Slippery Rock received 10. Each team also had one corner kick during this half.

The game remained scoreless after 88 minutes.

Shelby Ward made a cross to Julianna Howell with about one minute left in the game.

Ward sent the cross right to Howell who found the near post off a header, scoring the winning goal.

Clarion couldn’t find the goal after Howell’s header, ending the game in a 1-0 win for Slippery Rock.

When asked about the game, sophomore Lyndsey Brecosky said, “We were honestly the better team.

It was disappointing to lose when we had them, it should have been our game.” She also stated, “We will just train harder and next time it will be our game.”

Shero loves the team “and the new girls fit in well. We have good team chemistry and a lot of talent.”

Clarion’s keeper, Jenna Kulik, made nine saves during the game.

Slippery Rock’s keeper, Sarah Lacey, was credited with her second shutout of the season and registered four saves for the game.

Wednesday night the Golden Eagles will travel to Gannon.

The Eagles will also play Saturday afternoon at California University of Pennsylvania.
