The Clarion Men’s golf team concluded its fall season coming in third place at the 2010 PSAC Golf Championships.
The tournament was played on the par-72 Hershey Links Golf Club in Hershey, Pa. this past weekend.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the team event with a two-day total of 592.
West Chester finished second with a tally of 612, edging out the Golden Eagles, who recorded an overall score of 613 for the two rounds.
IUP’s Sean Sweithelm won the individual title, posting rounds of 76, 69 – 145.
Clarion’s best finisher was junior Zach Schloemer.
Schloemer opened with a 78, then came back strong for second day and tallied a one-under par 71 for a total of 149.
This was good enough to earn him a fourth- place finish.
Junior Ross Pringle was next for the Eagles, finishing in tenth place with a total of 75, 77 – 152.
Both Schloemer and Pringle earned All-PSAC honors for their solid play.
Also competing for the Golden Eagles was senior co-captain Jared Schmader, who just missed an All-PSAC showing finishing up in 12th place.
Schmader shot rounds of 80, 73 – 153.
Other co-captain senior Sean Foust finished up tied for 16th place with rounds of 82, 77 – 159.
Sophomore Bill Stover rounded out the Eagles top five with a 29th place finish.
Stover shot rounds of 84, 84 for a total of 168.
This tournament completed the stellar fall season.
“This was a great fall season for us. It would have been nice to cap it off with a win at PSACs, but this doesn’t take away from our accomplishments. It’s great playing with these
guys. I’m also happy with myself for the way I performed over the weekend. I played pretty good Sunday, and I’m happy with my finish,” Schloemer said.
“I would like to congratulate everyone on the team for making my last fall golf experience a memorable one. I was happy with the guys all year long, mostly because we never gave up. Sure, it would have been nice to win every tournament, but what we have done is certainly nothing to look down upon,” Schmader said.
The men’s team competed in a total of six tournaments over the course of the fall season.
They won two of them, took second in two of them, and came in third and fourth in the others.
Putting the season into perspective through a record, they finished up 185 – 8. Meaning, out of the six total tournaments, only eight teams managed to finish better than them
total, while they beat out 185 total teams.
“This was truly a great season on every level. The guys on the team are awesome, and we have a lot of fun. I only wish the spring season wasn’t so far away. I can’t wait to get
started back up again in the spring,” Foust said.
Clarion looks to build off its strong season and look forward to the spring.
“It was a good season for all of us. I’m excited to work hard in the off season, and come back better than ever,” Pringle said.
The team has formed a unique bond as the season went along.
“Even though I didn’t exactly make many tournaments, I still see this team as my family. We just have a great group of guys here. Maybe I can step up my play and participate in a
tournament or two this spring. That’s the goal,” senior co-captain Kevin Smith said.
The Golden Eagles will return for their spring season.
