Johnson leads Clarion lady swimmers to victory
The men’s and women’s swim teams were in action on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Carnegie Mellon University.
The women’s team improved its record to 2-0 this year.
Senior Kaitlyn Johnson, sophomore Morgan Oberlander, senior Gina Mattucci and senior Kayla Kelosky were double winners in individual events.
Johnson won the 100 meter butterfly (57.34) and 200 freestyle (1:55.84), while Oberlander took the 500 meterfreestyle (5:15.18) and the 200 butterfly (2:08.15).
Mattucci won the 50 free (24.70) and the 100 free (54.51).
Kelosky won both diving events, as she took the one-meter board with 237.82 points and the three-meter event with 236.24 points.
Clarion senior Kelly Connolly won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.11), and sophomore Madison Sewell won the 200 breaststroke (2:28.30). Clarion also won two relays: the 200
medley and 200 free relays.
The team consisted of Kayla Shull, Connolly, Johnson and Mattucci.
“It’s exciting to see the hard work paying off. We have a positive outlook for the rest of the season, and we’re looking forward to competing here on out,” Johnson said.
For the men, Clarion senior Logan Pearsall won both diving events, but the team lost 179-117 to Carnegie Mellon.
Pearsall won one meter with 270.82 points and the three-meter board with 316.43 points.
Also posting wins were senior Jon Kofmehl and freshman Derek Nelson.
Kofmehl won the 200 inter medley with a time of 2:03.50, and Nelson won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:00.11.
The 200 free relay team won the event with a time of 1:28.79.
The team consisted of sophomore Joe Ward, sophomore Casey Dunleavy, senior Garet Weston and sophomore Joe Welsh.
The teams will be in action at Shippensburg on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The meet is scheduled to start at noon.
