Golf swings into second

The Golden Eagle men’s golf team put in a strong showing this week at the IUP invitational, finishing second overall in a field of 17 teams.
Coming in first was Concord University. Clarion was second (584), barely edging out host IUP who finished with a final score of 585.
Sophmore Jared Schmader (139,-3) finished first overall at the two–day event, shooting three-under par on Monday, and finished even at 71 on Tuesday.
He beat out Darryn Deshong of Millersbille and Concord’s Andrew Miller, both players finished in a second place tie at -2.
Freshman Ross Pringle Finished in fourth one over par at 143, he shot a 69, two under par, on Tuesday and a 74 on Monday.
Other Clarion places were senior Justin Cameron (149, +7) 20th place. Derek Forese (153, +11) 33rd, and Zach Schloemer (164, +22) 68th place.
Clarion’s second place finish was a nice recovery from its 14th place finish in the Camp LeJune Invitational.
Other finishes this year were fourth at Concord and third at the St. James Invite.
The Eagles next head to Latrobe to take on St. Vincent on April 16.
