The Clarion Golden Eagles football team fell 31-14 Saturday, Oct. 23, against Edinboro University at Memorial Stadium.

Clarion is now 2-6 this season and 2-3 in the PSAC-West.

The Fighting Scots improved their record to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC-West.

Edinboro jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter with an 11 play 83-yard drive.

Edinboro’s quarterback Cody Harris ran three yards for the touchdown.

The Fighting Scots scored again late in the second quarter when Mike Hanhauser blocked a punt by Clarion’s Robert Mamula and recovered it in the end zone for the touchdown.

Clarion cut the lead to 14-7 with a four play 50-yard drive that was capped off with freshman quarterback, Ben Fiscus, passing to receiver, Craig Bunney, for the touchdown on the
final play of the first half.

Edinboro increased its lead to 21-7 early in the third quarter with a 53-yard touchdown from Harris to Gary Nolen. Edinboro scored again in the fourth quarter with an Alex
Romanias 23-yard field goal.

The Fighting Scots put the game completely out of reach when they scored another touchdown with 2:21 left in the fourth quarter making it 31-7.

Clarion was able to manage one more touchdown in the final seconds of the game. They drove 71 yards in 10 plays.

Fiscus threw a 13-yard pass to Matt Ward with 15 seconds left in the game making the final score 31-14.

Clarion had 276 yards of offense altogether.

Fiscus rushed 19 times for 70 yards and completed 14-38 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

He also threw two interceptions and had one fumble.

Alfonso Hoggard rushed 10 times for 31 yards.

Matt Ward caught five passes for 63 yards and one touchdown.

Bunney had three catches for 70 yards and scored the other Golden Eagle touchdown.

“We played a good game but we made some crucial mistakes. Edinboro is a good team, and they were able to capitalize those mistakes. Our next three games are going to be
good because right now every team in the PSAC-West is beating everyone. They will be tough games but we are looking forward to them,” Bunney said.

Clarion has three more games left in the season.

Two of those are away conference games. They end the season at home against Millersville.

If Clarion is able to win out, they can finish the season 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC-West.

The Golden Eagles travel to Gannon University Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. to take on the Golden Knights (5-3 overall) and (3-2 PSAC-West).
