Golden Eagles continue to stumble

The Clarion Lady Eagle softball team fell to Bloomsburg University on April 10 at Bloomsburg 1-8 and 5-12.

In the first game, Bloomsburg scored early, getting a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

In the top of the second, Clarion answered back with a run making the score 4-1.

Then, Bloomsburg ran in two more in the bottom of the second making it 6-1. In the bottom of the third, Bloomsburg ran in two more stretching out their lead to 8-1.

This was the last time either team scored.

In the second game, Clarion fell behind by two at the end of the first inning.

Clarion picked up a run in the top of the second on a hit by catcher Marissa Myers, but Bloomsburg answered back with two more scores in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, Clarion scored a run off a Carlie Cook homer to center field.

Unfortunately, in the bottom of the third, Bloomsburg scored two more runs making the score 6-2.

Clarion scored two in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bloomsburg scored four runs and two more in the bottom of the sixth, while

Clarion claimed one more run in the same inning.

This would be more than the Lady Eagles could handle as they fell to Bloomsburg 12-5.

The very next day, Clarion fell short to IUP in a double header April 11, at Clarion University.

IUP began their scoring in the second inning running in three runs and three more in the third inning.

IUP’s biggest inning came in the fourth when they ran in four runs.

This completed the scoring as IUP went on to win 10-0.

The Clarion University Lady Eagle softball team fell to Gannon University in a double header April 12 at Clarion University.

Gannon quickly established an early lead of 4-0 in the top of the first.

Rebecca Lynch singled in the bottom of the first. Nicole Lollo singled in the second.

However, Gannon ran in three more in the second, and three more in the third to defeat the Lady Eagles 10-0.

In the second game, Gannon was leading Clarion, 4-1 after two innings.

Gannon recorded one more in the top of the third, and three in fourth.

Clarion answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gannon answered back with one in the seventh.

A strong surge by Clarion in the bottom of the seventh inning ran in three runs for the Lady Eagles, but the team still fell short to Gannon, losing 9-6.

Clarion University’s women’s softball team played a very strong game this past Tuesday, but would fall short losing by one run, 3-4.

Cook went go 3-3, and Nicole Linder, Rebecca Lynch, and Kacie Nemeth would each contribute a hit.

Each team would score two runs in the first inning, and Edinboro recorded another run in the second.

Clarion would run in another run in the top of the fourth to tie it up at three.

However, Edinboro would score another time in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Lady Eagles 4-3.

In the second game, Clarion’s Lady Eagles scored one run in the second inning.

However,Edinboro would retaliate with four runs to lead after two innings.

Clarion would answer back in the third with two more runs to make the score 4-3.

Edinboro would answer with a run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3. Edinboro would score three more in the fourth.

Clarion’s Lynch would score off a Cook single to make the score 8-4.

In the top of the sixth, Clarion scored another off a Lollo sac fly in the top of the sixth, but Clarion would fall short in the end, 5-8.

The Clarion University Golden Eagle softball team will be back in action on Friday when they host Mansfield for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
