In the Eagles’ first game of the double header against Mansfield, Carlie Cook exploded, hitting two homeruns and a double; she was 3-for-4 in the game with four RBIs.

Marissa Myers also had three hits, which were all singles.

But, that wasn’t enough as the Eagles fell 10-6 to Mansfield in game one.

In game two, Cook was 2-for-2 in the game with the two RBIs, while Myers also had two RBIs in the contest.

Both Lauren Martino and Nicole Lollo had doubles in the contest.

But the Clarion would eventually fall to a late Mansfield rally and lose 8-7.

Coach Smoose says she thought the Mansfield trip was rather positive.

“Although we dropped two to Mansfield, we could have won both, but allowed them to have two big innings,” said Smoose.

The Clarion softball team had a really strong Saturday as they took both games in a tough double header against Edinboro.

The Golden Eagles softball team saw some solid hitting from Cook, as well as another good pitching game from Caitlin Lamison and senior Lindsay Vevers.

Rachelle Yarger and Martino landed singles in the first inning, and the Golden Eagles took an early 2-0 lead. Eventually, they would go up 6-0.

Lollo had a two-run single and Cook doubled.

Clarion would then have to play defense to defend their lead and did so.

They fought off a tough Edinboro rally to win 6-4. In the second game Cook continued her hot hitting weekend and had another homerun.

Lamison doubled, and Katie Baun would single helping the Golden Eagles take the second game 6-2.

Coach Smoose had this to say of the winning performance:

“Taking two from Edinboro was really big for us. We hit the ball well and our pitching was outstanding.”

Early on in the week Carlie Cook was named the PSAC central player of the week.

Cook had a great weekend and either won, or seemingly kept the Eagles in the game, with her outstanding hitting.

Coach Smoose referred to Cook’s honor as “super.”

Cook was nine for 16 with three home runs, six doubles, nine RBI’s and scored seven times in the six games

last week.

The Lady Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday away at Indiana University of Pa.

On Saturday the Golden Eagles will travel to Millersville for a double-header.

The next time the Eagles return home will be on Tuesday, when they host Shippensburg.
