On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Golden Eagles soccer team was lead by their freshmen players and defeated Shippensburg with a final score of 1-0.

The Eagles gained many scoring chances off of their counter attack but were not able to capitalize.

That is until the 28th minute of the first half when freshman Casey Harsch connected with fellow freshman Alyssa Liebdzinski off of a free kick for the lone
goal of the game.

The Eagles defense was able to fight off many pushes by Shippensburg, who had their fair share of chances.

Freshman goalie Laura Saussol made many key saves en route to her second shutout of the season.

Saussol finished the game with 13 saves. The success of the young goal keeper comes as no surprise head coach Rob Eaton.

“I don’t know that she has exceeded my expectations because I knew she was darn good.”

Eaton is pleased with Saussol’s level of play so far this season.

“I think she is a very strong goal keeper and as a freshman she has done very well.”

According to Eaton, the future could be very bright for the young goal keeper.

“I think by the time she is a senior, if she stays healthy, she could go down as one of the best keepers in the conference.”

Saussol credits her teammates in helping her achieve the level at which she plays at.

“When the defense plays good I feed off of that, and when I play good I think they feed off of that. We’re always there to help and it’s good we play as a
team.”

Senior Jordan Daloisio came off the bench for the Eagles and finished with a team high three shots.

Eaton was not pleased with the overall play of his team but was happy to come away with the win.

“It was an athletic contest that we outmatched their effort”

Eaton, however, was pleased with the attitude his team played with.

“We played with a lot of desire, and maybe that’s what we need to turn the corner.”

The Eagles have two games next week traveling to CalU, followed by a game at Edinboro University.

The Eagles final home game will be played on Oct. 22, when they host Kutztown University.

The Golden Eagles soccer team also celebrated homecoming Saturday, Oct. 8, with a trip to Slippery Rock.

The Eagles were defeated in the contest with the final score of 3-0, and were out shot in the game 22-4.

All three Slippery Rock goals came from close range.

Liebdzinski, Crystal Miller, Casey Harsch, and Bethany Naugle each recorded a shot for the Eagles.

Goalie Laura Saussol finished the game with five saves.
