This past Friday night the Golden Eagles were looking to end their nine game losing streak.
Clarion had something to fight for though, it was Coach Nina Feldman’s last game with the team before she moved on to a new job in Texas.
Clarion hosted the non conference game against West Virginia Wesleyan, coming out on top with a final score of 1-0.
The Bobcats were coming into play rolling off a 4-0 win.
Things were not looking good for the Golden Eagles. It was a rainy Friday night and Clarion was hoping to use the nasty weather to its advantage.
In front of a scarce crowd, once again the Golden Eagles and goalkeeper Jenna Kulik stayed scoreless throughout the first half. Both teams played a sloppy game as there were only 11 total shots recorded. Only one was a shot on goal.
The Golden Eagles came out determined to score after the half. With only 3:43 into the second half, Alaina Tintera found teammate Jordan Daloisio for the lone goal of the game.
It was only the Golden Eagles third goal in the last 10 games, but it proved to be enough.
It turned out to be a very physical game on the Bobcats side of the ball as they had 11 fouls to the Golden Eagles two.
This save was able to give Clarion more opportunities to threaten with five corner kicks.
Right before the half, Bobcats junior Rachel Taylor received a yellow card for an illegal tackle.
Erin White recorded two of the five shots for the Golden Eagles, while goal keeper Kulik picked up her fourth shutout of the season. It seemed like a perfect way to go out for Coach Feldman.
The Golden Eagles were back in action Tuesday night against conference rival Edinboro.
Coming off its win on Friday, Clarion was looking to build its winning streak to two games.
It was a rainy night at Memorial Stadium, but that wasn’t going to stop this conference match-up.
Edinboro didn’t waste much time to take the lead when Rachel Dahlstrand found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.
Clarion was looking for anyone to step up on offense.
They found it when freshman Bethany Naugle scored her first collegiate goal at 28:27 to knot up the game at 1-1.
It turned out to be a defensive game throughout.
With the score still tied going into overtime, Edinboro was looking to end it. Clarion goalkeeper, Kulik, was not going to let that happen.
Well into the second overtime, Kulik made a game-saving save to keep the score tied.
The game ended up in a tie after a hard fought game by both teams.
When asked how the team will respond with a new coach for the remainder of the season and how they will build on the last game, Kulik said, “We need to stay focused and keep working hard. Our last win was a huge turning point in our season and a win that we definitely deserved. We need to continue working hard, and only good things will come. Coach Jon has been doing a fabulous job this season working with us.”
“He really knows what he is talking about and is going to be a huge part of our success the rest of the season,” Kulik said.
Clarion still has two remaining games on its home stand.
They will look to continue their hot stretch on Saturday when they host Kutztown University. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
