Eagles fall short

The Golden Eagles have been on a down slide as of late, losing nine games in a row and 15 out of 20.

This week alone, Clarion has dropped eight games while only averaging two runs per game.

Opponents have scored about seven runs per game during the stretch.

The Eagles dropped two games at Lock Haven on Monday, followed by two home losses on Tuesday and two home losses on Friday to Lake Erie and Mercyhurst.

They followed that up with two losses at Mercyhurst on Saturday.

Clarion out hit Lake Erie in game one on Tuesday, but lost the decision 3-2.

Clarion recorded 10 hits to Lake Erie’s six. Nine runners were left on base for Clarion which ended up playing a big role in the game. Scott Berkes dropped the decision for Clarion. Berkes (0-1) pitched 5.2 innings while giving up six hits for two earned runs. Jason Krimsky went 3-for-4 to lead Clarion. Six other Clarion hitters chipped in with a hit a piece.

Game two at Memorial Stadium in Clarion went to Lake Erie 6-2.

The game was scoreless up until the fourth inning when Lake Erie got the first tally of the game. Lake Erie got three hits and scored two runs in the fourth inning.

Then Clarion responded with two runs of their own in the fourth inning to tie the score at two.

Two runs were scored on two hits, an error and a couple of wild pitches. From there, Lake Erie scored two runs in the fifth and the seventh to seal the deal in game two. Eric Panko got the loss for Clarion.

He lasted five innings while giving up seven hits for one earned run.

Kirk Hayes went 3-for-3 to lead Clarion in game two. Scott Berkes and Matt Rossi went 2-for-4.

Mercyhurst swept both games that were played against Clarion at Memorial Stadium.

The first game was controlled by Mercyhurst and their starter Steve Grife who went six innings and only gave up one earned run in a 10-2 decision.

John Hynes of Clarion went 5.2 innings and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits.

Matt Rossi went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jason Krimsky collected an RBI in a 1-for-4 day.

Nick Gillung (6-0) got the victory for Mercyhurst in game two, 8-5. He lasted six innings while giving up five hits for two earned runs. Chuck Roller (4-4) picked up the loss for the Golden Eagles.

He gave up 12 hits for six earned runs in six innings. Andrew Petruska went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Clarion.

Adam Foltz and Mark White each collected an RBI.

Clarion dropped two games at Mercyhurst, 9-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two.

Eric Panko got the loss in game one. Jason Krimsky and Scott Berkes picked up the lone hits for the Golden Eagles.

They were out hit 10-2. Gregg Bandzuh got the call in game two and got the loss as well.

He gave up three earned runs in four innings of work. Matt White led the way for Clarion from the plate by going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Clarion split a double header with Point Park with a 2-1, eight-inning win in game two. The Eagles will next face Slippery Rock in a double-header.
