Eagles battle Hawks
The Clarion University women’s softball team comes together during this past week’s game against Millersville, in which they lost both in a double-header.
In the first game of a tough double header Clarion fell 15-3 in five innings against Millersville.
Clarion just couldn’t get it going from the mound.
Caitlin Lamison started and gave up five runs, then Lindsay Vevers gave up 8 runs and finally Danielle Cecire came in relief of Vevers and gave up two additional runs.
On a brighter note, Carlie Cook continued hitting the ball well going 3 for 3 and driving in all of the Eagle’s three runs.
In the second game of the double header, Clarion started to turn it on and had 11 hits in the game.
Rachelle Yarger and Marissa Myers each had 3 and Nicole Lollo added a 2.
But the strong bats of the Eagles just weren’t enough as they would eventually fall 6-4.
The Eagles led for most of game 1 on April 5.
But a strong last three innings from the IUP Crimson Hawks spelled doom for Clarion losing 13-7.
In game two the Eagles also fell 8-3. For the day Cook continued to pound the ball hitting her fourth homerun of the year.
She also got some help from Lauren Martino adding two hits and Marissa Myers and Suzie Denillo each had 2 RBI’s.
Pitching was another problem for the Eagles as Lamison allowed 10 runs and 15 hits in game 1, and Cecire allowed eight run and 14 hits.
“We struggled with pitching and leaving runners on base. We hit the ball, but were unable to score,” said Clarion’s head coach Nancy Smoose.
The Eagles will return to action tomorrow.
