Cross country finishes No. 13 at the PSAC championships

The women’s cross country team competed in the PSAC Championships, on Saturday, Nov. 6, at California University of Pennsylvania, scoring 346 points and finishing 13th in the overall competition.

Slippery Rock University took the title that day finishing in first place with 28 points.

With a time of 24:21, freshman Megan Toddy led the team by finishing in 35th place.

Clarion also had three more runners finishing in the top 80 and two more runners scoring for the Clarion women’s team.

In 64th place was sophomore Ciara Shorts finishing with a time of 25:14, Kate Reinhart finished 76th with a time of 25:44, and sophomore Allison Regan came in 80th with a time of 25:48.

Three more runners scored for Clarion, Jamie Wyatt finished 91st with a time of 26:21, freshman Sarah Loughner came in 94th with a time of 26:37, and junior Jeanna Schwerer with a time of 26:43,

finished in 96th.

This was Ciara Shorts second time in a row competing in the PSAC championship for the Golden Eagles.

“Megan Toddy really took off at the beginning of the race, I could barely keep up with her,” Shorts said.

Now with the PSAC championships behind them, the Golden Eagles are getting ready for regionals in a couple of weeks.

“We’ll do some tapering, which means we’ll somewhat slow down our workouts so that our bodies can rest, while also keeping up with a five to six mile workout,” Shorts said.

Clarion will continue competition in two weeks at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional meet in Cary, N.C., to continue their quest for victory.
