It was another tough weekend for womens soccer, as they leave the weekend still looking for ways to put balls in the back of the net.
“We just don’t look like we can score goals,” said Head Coach Rob Eaton.
As the women hosted Indiana University of Pennsylvania on a cold and rainy Saturday morning, the Crimson Hawks got off to a good start with a goal by Heather
Robbins in the 17th minute.
Clarion’s Autumn Rosenburg tried to get the Golden Eagles on the board in the 40th minute, but her shot sailed wide, keeping the game at 1-0.
Clarion continued an offensive surge, forcing three corner kicks that led to more offensive scoring chances, but it was to no avail going into the half.
The girls continued to fight into the second half, but a goal by IUP’s Carter Sheely in the 83rd minute iced the game for the Crimson Hawks, 2-0.
Eaton tried everything possible to find some chemistry among the girls to get on the board.
“I just wanted to give other girls a chance and see what they can do. We’re just trying to look for a spark,” Eaton said.
The Golden Eagles continued to struggle on the offensive end in their game Sunday at Seton Hill. Clarion recorded 10 shots on goal, including two from
Rosenberg.
Clarion also got some shots on goal from the bench, including Lauren Barbour and Jordan Bahr with two shots on goal.
However, the Golden Eagles continue to struggle scoring goals.
“We had another useful passing display, but continue to lack any kind of scoring threat,” said Coach Eaton.
The Golden Eagles would finally record a goal, coming from a 1-1 tie against Lock Haven at home Wednesday night, Oct. 5.
The goal was scored by Autumn Rosenburg at the 19th minute, which was two minutes prior to Lock Haven striking first on a goal by Carly D’Orsaneo.
Clarion also had 11 shots on goal which tops their season high set against Seton Hill on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles also had plenty of scoring chances as well, especially toward the end of the first half once again, but couldn’t finish the job.
“It’s all about putting it into a certain space,” Eaton said, “It just didn’t bounce our way.”
Clarion will hit the road Saturday, Oct. 8, to take on Slippery Rock.
