Clarion women’s soccer falls to IUP

Clarion University’s women’s soccer team lost a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

First year head coach, Rob Eaton is staying positive despite the losses.

“We play in the toughest conference in the country and we’re going to see some of the best teams in the nation at this level.”

“The games are not easy and we are not going to be favorites in any of our upcoming games,” said Coach Eaton.

Indiana’s Heather Robbins had a hand in all three IUP goals.

IUP outshot the Golden Eagles 12-5. All five of Clarion shots came in the first half.

Clarion goalkeeper, Jenna Kulik took the loss stopping nine of 12 shots.

“She needs to contribute each time to keeping the final score as low as possible,” Coach Eaton said.

The five Golden Eagle shots came from Jill Miller, Amanda Lewis, Beth Ellen Dibeler, Erin White and Megan Lawson respectively.

Coach Eaton was not too concerned with the number of shots his team put up compared to ball possession.

“Shots are important but ball possession is even more so at the moment. If we can match the opposition number of shots and have as much possession as the opposition in the next few weeks I will be pleased.”

Coach Eaton says the team played well despite not being able to find the back of the net.

“We have played well in each game this season. I don’t doubt the player’s willingness to learn and to want to improve. They played very well against IUP defensively for about an
hour. We are just a little naïve and physically outmatched in certain positions which makes it tough at times.”

Miller, who recently tied the school record for goals in a career, was held pointless for the second consecutive game. She remains one point behind Ashlee Regazzi’s school record for total points.

She has 29 points, 14 of which are goals.

Eaton emphasizes pos-itivity despite the rough start, “I just have to check my ego at the field before we play, it’s tough to lose when you are not used to it on a frequent basis, but I knew coming in it wouldn’t be pretty the first year, and I build upon the positives each game.”
