Clarion Volleyball Wins PSAC Crossover
The Clarion University women’s volleyball team had a successful outing at the PSAC Crossover this past weekend at Indiana University of Pennsylvania winning all
three of their matches.
The Golden Eagles defeated Kutztown in three games winning (25-15, 25-17, 25-16).
Senior Kellie Bartman led the team with 17 kills in the match and added seven digs and a block. Sophomore Hannah Heeter recorded seven kills, two digs and a
block. Juniors Rebecca Webb, Rebecca Ferragonio and Rebecca Beightol each had six kills.
Senior setter Amanda Gough recorded 38 set assists while senior Libero Rhianon Brady had 26 digs.
In the second match, Clarion defeated Cheyney in three games winning (25-10, 25-7, 25-4).
Sophomore Corinne Manley led the team with eight kills. Freshman Laura Duncan added another six kills and sophmore Aubree Frey had five kills.
Freshman setter Laura Subject had 24 assists, while sophomore Lauren Magalski had four service aces.
The Golden Eagles wrapped up the PSAC Crossover with a 3-1 victory over West Chester.
Clarion lost the first game 25-22 and then completed a three-game sweep winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 to take the match. Senior Kaitlyn Anderson led the team with
15 kills and added eight digs.
Bartman recorded 13 kills and eight digs and Heeter had 10 kills and two blocks. Webb had seven kills and four blocks, and Beightol added six kills.
Subject had 40 assists, seven digs, and two service aces.
Brady also had two aces and, on defense, recorded 30 digs.
Senior Kayla Rodak helped out by adding another seven digs.
The Golden Eagles played well in all three PSAC games after a slow start this past weekend.
“We made a few changes and pushed through this past weekend with flying colors. A lot of girls stepped up and produced good numbers,” said Gough.
After a tough loss to Juniata, the Golden Eagles seemed well prepared for the beginning of PSAC play.
“We have worked extremely hard both mentally and physically to prepare for the start of conference play, and seeing our hard work pay off this past weekend was
so nice,” said senior Brady.
Clarion has high expectations to repeat as PSAC champions.
They have all their starters back from a year ago, and all the experience may help take the Golden Eagles far this season.
“I have high expectations, but I’m only focusing on the day-to-day route of our success,” said Gough.
Clarion is now 7-5 overall (3-0 PSAC West) and will be back on the court Friday, Sept. 23, at Gannon in another PSAC West matchup.
