The Clarion Golden Eagle women’s volleyball team suffered another tough defeat last Friday night, Sept. 30, at Tippin Gym in a thrilling five-game match against
Edinboro University.

Clarion got off to a slow start in game one going down 6-1 before head coach Jennifer Mills called a timeout.

Edinboro committed a service error out of the time out, and the Golden Eagles slowly climbed back into the game but struggled to find any momentum to take the
lead. Edinboro took game one 25-18.

The Fighting Scots got off to another quick start in game two with four straight points.

Clarion didn’t give up and went on to take game two 25-20.

The two teams battled back and forth all night with Edinboro taking game three 25-20 and Clarion winning game four 25-20 to force a deciding game five.

Clarion got off to another slow start, and was unable to climb back losing the final game 15-9.

Senior Kellie Bartman had a dominant night with 18 kills, seven digs, three blocks and one assist, but it wasn’t enough to win the match.

The Golden Eagles had no answer for Edinboro’s Gina Boothe, who recorded 20 kills and Kelcie Hellmer, who had 10 kills.

Clarion senior setter Amanda Gough had a solid match with 47 assists, five digs and three kills.

Sophomore Hannah Heeter recorded 13 kills, two digs and two blocks. Senior Rhianon Brady had 23 digs while sophomore Aubree Frye added another 14.

The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC.

“We need to maintain focus and keep working to get better everyday,” Clarion head coach Jennifer Mills said.

“We need to look ahead now by game film and getting back in the gym to prepare for our upcoming PSAC games,” Mills said.

The Golden Eagles look to get their season back on track as they travel to Millersville and Shippensburg Universities on Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8,
for the PSAC Crossover.

Clarion will face Millersville and Lock Haven Universities on Friday at Millersville.

Millersville comes into the game against Clarion with a 7-10 overall record, while Lock Haven will try to pick up its ninth win of the season against Clarion.

The Golden Eagles will then travel to Shippensburg on Saturday to face off against East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg.

The Golden Eagles return home to face two PSAC teams on Oct. 14-15 in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Matches.

Clarion will play California University of Pennsylvania on the 14 at 7 p.m. and then Indiana University of Pennsylvania the next day, Oct. 15 at noon.
