Last weekend, Clarion University women’s volleyball team played in the WVIAC Crossover.

On Friday, Sept. 9, the Golden Eagles swept a doubleheader at Gannon University.

In game one Clarion defeated Alderson-Broaddus 3-0.

Clarion received a hard-fought victory in the first set 25-21 before easily disposing of them 25-15 and 25-12 in the second and third sets respectively.

In Clarion’s second matchup of the day they recorded another 3-0 victory, this time over Pitt-Johnstown.

Clarion was back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10, splitting the two matches.

After a 3-1 (26-28, 25-19, 23-25, 16-25) loss to Seton Hill, Clarion took a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-13) win over West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Golden Eagles faced the two-time national champion Juniata Eagles on Tuesday Sept. 13, in the first home game of the season.

The Golden Eagles got off to a rough start but kept fighting back.

They lost their fight to Juniata in the third set with a 25-21 loss after the Eagles won the first and second set 25-17 and 25-23 respectively.

Junior Rebecca Beightol and sophomore Emily Stewart both said, “errors and expectations” were the cause of their loss.

The team feels that they are held to high expectations after last year’s season, and they just want to be able to focus on one game at a time.

They were satisfied with their defensive passing and serve-receive as well as the minimal amount of service errors they had.

After their 3-0 win to Juniata in 2010, the loss was quite a surprise. Head coach Jennifer Mills plans on continuing practices as they are but focusing mainly
on consistency and teamwork.

“We most definitely struggled offensively, although we attacked aggressively,” Coach Mills said.

Clarion University women’s Volleyball team will take on the PSAC Crossover matches at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sept. 16 and 17, facing Kutztown,
Cheyney, and West Chester University.

Their next home game will be Sept. 30 against Edinboro University at Tippin Gymnasium.

The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
