Clarion swimmers sweep meet against Bloomsburg
The Clarion University women’s swim team improved its record to 4-0 with a 174-118 win over Bloomsburg Saturday, Nov. 13, at W.S. Tippin Natatorium. Clarion sophomore
Morgan Oberlander, senior Kaitlyn Johnson and sophomore Kayla Shull were all double winners in individual events.
Oberlander won the 100 fly (1:00.10) and the 1000 freestyle (10:56.70). Johnson won the 100 free (53.37) and the 200 fly (2:06.23).
Shull took the 200 backstroke (2:11.96) and the 200 freestyle (1:58.94)
“We had a really hard week of practice, and everyone still managed to do very well. That’s a great sign for our upcoming taper meet in Akron,” Johnson said.
Also notching winning performances were senior Kelly Connolly, sophomore Madison Sewell, junior Courtney Bogue, senior Gina Mattucci, senior Kayla Kelosky and senior Kim
Ogden.
Connolly won the 200 Inter Medley (2:15.90), Sewell took the 200 breaststroke (2:28.72), Bogue won the 100 backstroke (1:00.76), Mattucci, the 50 free (24.67), Kelosky took the
three meter diving (283.36) and Ogden the one meter diving (219.30).
Clarion also won two relays – the 400 medley (Bogue, Connolly, Oberlander, Shull) and the 200 free relays (Johnson, Mattucci, Oberlander, Tano).
The men’s team also defeated Bloomsburg with a score of 182 – 114.
This improves their record to 1-3 for the season.
Clarion senior Jon Kofmehl, sophomore Joe Ward and senior Logan Pearsall were all double winners.
Kofmehl won the 100 backstroke (54.30) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.94).
Ward won the 50 free (22.02) and the 100 free (48.60).
Pearsall won both diving events including the one-meter (275.25) and three-meter (326.03) events.
Other winners for Clarion men included sophomore Ben Appleby, sophomore Jake Campbell, freshman Derek Nelson, freshman Scott Harvey and sophomore Mark Krchnak.
Appleby won the 200 meter (1:46.43), Campbell took the 200 inter medley (2:04.03), Nelson won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.28), Harvey took the 500 free (4:54.80), and Krchnak
won the 200 breaststroke (2:15.31).
Both teams will be in action Dec. 3-5 as they travel to the University of Akron to compete in the Zippy Invitational.
