Clarion Softball team comes out swinging
The Clarion softball team is off to its best start in a decade.
The Eagles started off the season winning their first four games, which hasn’t been done in 25 years, on their way to an early 5-3 record.
Clarion took its spring trip down to North Myrtle Beach, S.C..
On the first two days of the trip, the Golden Eagles were perfect going 4-0.
In game one Clarion crushed Ohio Valley winning 11-0 in five innings.
The next game that day was a tight one, but Clarion pulled it out winning 1-0 over La Roche College.
Day two brought two more wins for Clarion.
The first game was a win over Oakland City 4-1, and the second game of the day against Gwynedd-Mercy only went five innings, but it was enough for the Golden Eagles to soar
to a 9-1 win.
Clarion went 1-3 in the final four games of the trip, but coming out of the south with a 5-3 record is something that hasn’t happened since 2001.
Freshman Meghan Stanton went 2-5 on the trip down south, and was impressed with the senior leadership.
“It’s been amazing,” Stanton said.
“Starting from the seniors and going to the sophomores there has been so much support and encouragement. They all trust that we can go into a position and hold our own. It
really makes us excited to go out for the season and just give everything that we have.”
Junior pitcher Megan Daley has had a fantastic start to the season.
She pitched 30 and 2/3 innings, with a sensational 1.37 ERA and a 3-2 record overall.
Senior Nicole Lolla is 10 for 25 on the season batting .400, with five RBIs and leads the team with six doubles.
“It’s all a matter of continuing to pick each other up. We can’t be expected to be perfect as individuals, but as a team. We can be perfect, that means each person has to bring
something to the table,” Lolla said.
“If that continues to happen, we will be able to continue striving forward. I have no doubt that we will. Each girl has the passion in their heart and they let that be known by the
way they perform on the field and that’s an incredible thing to be a part of.”
Senior Carlie Cook is hitting the cover off the ball batting .480, and sophomore Erica Burkey has pitched well with a 3.61 ERA, and a 2-1 record overall.
Clarion is back in action on Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m.
