On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Clarion University’s women’s soccer team tied Mansfield University 0-0.

The Golden Eagles, who dominated the shots, holding a 19-2 advantage, fell victim to some unlucky bounces.

The most unfortunate bounce came late in the second overtime.

Senior Jill Miller fired a shot that hit off the left goal post, rolled right along the goal line and then hit the right goal post and bounced away.

“That was just our luck today,” head coach Rob Eaton said.

Miller had five of the 19 shots, while freshmen Jordan Bahr and Kathleen Lawson had two shots apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Jenna Kulik made two saves to preserve the shutout.

The Golden Eagles returned to action Tuesday afternoon as they fell to Shippensburg in a close game.

Shippensburg scored the lone goal in the final 40 seconds of regulation.

“It was a tough one,” Eaton said.

“It took a phenomenal shot to beat us. It was a great shot from 18 yards out. There was nothing anyone could have done about it. We were getting ready for overtime, and boom it
went in. We played well. It’s disappointing.”

Shippensburg held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Clarion had a chance to break the tie early in the second half, but Miller’s header hit off the crossbar.

Bahr and Lawson contributed with three shots apiece, as Miller, Jordan Daloiso and Bethany Naugle all had two shots each.

Clarion’s playoff hopes remain alive as they are 4-6-3 in the PSAC and 4-6-4 overall.

They have 15 points and trail Edinboro (16) by one point.

Each team has three games remaining on their schedules.

Edinboro comes to Clarion on Oct. 30 in a match that could determine the eighth and final playoff spot.

That game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Clarion returns to action Saturday, Oct. 23, as it plays host to California University at 7 p.m.
