Student Senate wraps semester

CLARION, Pa., Dec. 3 -
Clarion University’s Student Senate held its last meeting of the semester Monday, Dec. 7.

The senate covered a lot of ground in an hour and a half.
Student Senate approved a request by the University Activities Board for a new iMac computer and license for Adobe Suite. A UAB representative said the equipment would usually cost between $1,500 and $2,000, but obtained a student discount.
Student Senate approved UAB’s requested amount of $1,445.05. The allotment will come from the capital account.
Senate also approved a request for the Clarion University Students in Athletic Training. An amount of $1,809 will be for its district convention in Boston. Eight athletic training students will be attending the convention. Funding will come from the senate’s supplemental account.
“Trips are provided through our supplemental account. The capital account is for investments, such as the computer,” said Student Senate President Heather Puhalla.
Recognized Student Organization legitimacy was also discussed at the meeting.
“RSOs have until this Friday to fill out their paperwork and turn it in for next semester,” said Puhalla. “If there is no paperwork, the organization will not be recognized. Organizations and clubs have an opportunity to submit paperwork every semester to become an RSO. When organizations are recognized, it is then that they can request funding from Student Senate.
Senators also brought up speed bumps that have been ordered for areas by the Suites.
“They will probably be put in over break,” said Puhalla.
Students will appreciate the possibility of having a Red Box on campus as well.
“We need to take a head count to see how many DVDs should be included. I’d like to see it up by the time we get back,” said Puhalla.
The Eagle Commons and Gemmell are possible locations for the Red Box movie station.
