CLARION, Pa., April 8 – Georgette Forney co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, presented to students, faculty, and locals her personal account, “Why Abortion is so Bad” on April 7 in Hart Chapel.

Her Silent No More Campaign began in 2003. Over the past seven years, 6,850 men and women have shared their abortion experiences and expressed their regrets.

In 1976, at 16 years old, Forney became pregnant. A friend suggested that she get an abortion. Forney, who had always been known as the “good-girl in her family,” agreed to go through the procedure.

Forney said she was not prepared for the traumatic experience that followed She now tours the U.S. presenting her views as to why she feels abortion is so bad.

Her top reason is that abortion affects women’s relationships with God.

“Women tend to hide from God,” said Forney. “We know we’ve taken the life of another being.”

Another reason is that it negatively affects women’s future relationships.

“We lose trust especially to those who supported our decision or told us to get an abortion,” said Forney. “It also is a dark secret we tend to hide from people. We don’t have bonds with our future children or we become overprotective.”

Abortion acts as a Band-Aid that allows society to dismiss the real needs of women and mothers.

“It also frees men from their responsibility to be fathers,” said Forney.
Forney also explained that women are coerced by family, friends, employers, and sex predators into having abortions.

“Their families will kick them out, or their boyfriends will leave,” said Forney. “However, a new study shows that 90 percent of couples break up after the abortion because it causes so much mental unstableness between men and women.”

“The No. 1 reason as to why abortion is so bad is that it compromises who we are as women,” said Forney. “If we give it up for adoption, we don’t want to be viewed as bad moms, but abortion is easy quick, and quiet.”
