Clarion’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America met with other communication students and friends at Kutter’s Pool Hall on Main Street.

Tuesday’s pool-and-pizza mixer had more than a dozen students dancing and shooting pool.

PRSSA President Jamie Wright coined the party “Communications Day.”

Wright is a graduate student in public relations, a track and cross-country runner and has been a PRSSA member since fall 2010.

“What we’re looking for here is a systematic socialization in an informal setting,” Wright said.

PRSSA describes itself on it’s website as a national organization dedicated to preparing highly qualified public relations professionals.

Wright said joining PRSSA “is a great opportunity to get connected with the professionals in the field all over the country.”

PRSSA members said they chose Kutter’s to host the event because it was new to the area and seemed like a fun place.

Jen Hemenger, a public relations major from Erie, Pa., said, “We wanted to do something exciting to recruit new members, and to get more people involved”

Hemenger has been a PRSSA member for two years, and is currently serving as public relations director for PRSSA.

“If you want to advance yourself as quickly as possible,” Wright said, “get involved.”
