Dr. Laurie Miller / The Clarion Call
Live tweets from Pittsburgh
The G-20 Summit, the periodic meeting of the world’s top 20 economic powers (representing 85% of the global economy), is convening in Pittsburgh today and tomorrow.
News editor Julia Nene, online editor Mike Ramsey, and faculty adviser Dr. Laurie Miller are in town covering the event.
Live and almost-live content will be posted to this page all day today. A live feed of our tweets can be found to the right; below we will be posting more substantial updates throughout the day, including photos and video from the scene.
10:32 AM: It will be announced today that the G-20 will replace the G-8 as a permanent council on international cooperation. The G-20 is more representative than the G-8, including not just first-world developed nations but also many developing and growing economies like China, India, and Brazil.
10:20 AM: Big happenings today inside the convention center: in the wake of his earlier call for total nuclear disarmament, President Obama accused Iran of building a secret nuclear fuel plant. Obama was joined by French president Nicolas Sarkozy and British prime minister Gordon Brown.
