Philanthropists receive Equity Awards

CLARION, Pa., Nov. 20 — Clarion University concluded its observance of Equity Week at its fifteenth Annual Equity Dinner and Awards Ceremony held Nov. 11. The week’s theme was “The Last Word on Race and Gender.”

Florence Shutsy-Reynolds, a Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) member, was the keynote speaker and an award recipient.

Equity awards were also presented to President Joseph Grunewald, professors Dr. Sandra Trejos and Dr. Robert Girvan, Clarion students Jermaine Merrill and Geovanni Miller, and community member Betty McKisson. More »

CLARION Pa., Nov. 18 – The Political Economy Club and Muslim Student Association presented a panel about the Middle East. “The Middle East: A Clarion Perspective” discussed the culture, language, stereotypes, female roles, and the situation in Gaza.

CLARION, Pa., Nov. 3 – It has been almost a month since news of the closing of the Earl R. Siler Child Care and Development Center was announced.

This news has impacted faculty to student-parents to education majors. The center is being closed due to financial reasons and action has been taken on all levels to find another option rather than shutting Siler’s doors. More »

Siler Center needs funding to stay open

CLARION, Pa., Oct. 15 – The Earl R. Siler Child Care and Development Center is set to close on Dec. 24 if not sooner. The center is closing due to a lack of funding. This news has affected many people.
Hannah Mills, a junior sociology major at Clarion University, has a 2-year-old daughter, Annia, who attends the Siler Center. She is a transfer student whose main reason for coming to Clarion was because they had child care.

Dr. John T. Groves, dean of the college of education and human services, announced Oct. 6 that the Earl R. Siler Child Care and Development Center would be closing its doors on Dec. 24, if not sooner.

The center, located in the basement of Ralston Hall, has been serving Clarion University students and faculty, as well as the local community, for almost 20 years. More »

ALF ‘always a good fair’ for vendors

CLARION, Pa., September 28 – For most of Pennsylvania, autumn means shortened days, cold nights, beautiful reds and oranges in the trees.

In Clarion County, the beginning of the fall season also means Autumn Leaf Festival is in town.

Autumn Leaf Festival, or ALF, as it is commonly known, is the week-long festival that takes place in Clarion every fall. The festival brings live entertainment, sidewalk sales, parades, a car show and carnival food. More »
