New printers will decrease spending

CLARION, Pa., Dec. 2 — Most people don’t consider 10 cents to be that much to print a sheet of paper. But the Clarion University purchasing department did some math, and every copy does add up.

The majority of expenses comes from changing print cartridges for the 540 printers, mostly Hewlett Packard, found on campus. Clarion spends $60,000 a year on these cartridges alone.

So to save some serious money, the university has begun deinstalling the HP printers in Carrier, and replacing them with Ricoh equipment. This new product is multi-functioning, including a printer, copier and scanner all in one. More »

CLARION, Pa., Oct. 18 – A particular debate has been simmering under the radar for some time on Clarion University’s campus. Students walk past the source of the debate on a daily basis.

It’s in the posters found on bulletin boards and in the women’s restroom stalls advertising free pregnancy screenings at AAA Life Services.

The debate is between AAA and the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance. The two organizations met, along with Students 4 Life, Oct. 14 to discuss a possible compromise in altering the posters. More »

It’s a good thing the city of Pittsburgh is already among the hills. With teams like the Steelers and Penguins, as well as being tapped to host the G-20 Summit, the Steel City couldn’t get closer to the clouds.

Sports aside, Pittsburgh has a lot going for it, which is why President Obama chose it for the Group of 20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governor meeting. Obama acknowledged Pittsburgh’s steely strength after that industry skipped town and the city still managed to revive itself through sustainable and innovative economics. More »

Awaken, North Wind! lead singer Bryan Morgante sings out to crowd last Friday.

Last Friday’s benefit concert in the Gemmell Multi-Purpose Room was a hit, in more ways than one. The VH1 Save the Music show included everything from pies in the face to bands getting kicked out.

All proceeds from the concert went to fund music education programs for students nationwide.

The night started out with Misleading Manderson taking the stage, doing cover music from the likes of Green Day and Weezer. The second band, Full Swing, was not as well behaved or received.

“They were abusing the equipment and swinging mics around, which would ruin the show for others. It’s one thing if it’s your own (equipment), but it’s not,” said Joel Fitzpatrick, a Clarion University student and member of the events support team.

After the band received a warning from the tech crew, the misconduct did not stop.

“We had to shut them off the second time,” said Fitzpatrick.

It looks like Full Swing took the name of its band to heart. More »
