Swift takes the Grammys

Twenty years ago, at the 32nd annual Grammy Awards would have been the first Grammy Awards ceremony that country singer, Taylor Swift would have been able to watch, because she would have just been born.

At age 20, Taylor Swift, is the youngest award winner ever at the Grammy’s and received the biggest award at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, which was held this past Sunday, Jan 31. She won With her album, “Fearless.”

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were hosted by Stephen Colbert, who introduced many famous actors and actress’s as well as artists to the stage, for America’s entertainment.

R&B Singer, Beyonce Knowles made history last Sunday night at the awards. Knowles won six trophies and was nominated for ten of them.  Runner up to Knowles was Taylor Swift, who came away with four Grammy’s to start off her collection. The Black Eyed Peas and Kings of Leon also won three Grammy’s each.

Knowles and Swift were two of the many artists that performed during the awards ceremony. Swift performed on stage with guest artist Stevie Nicks. Some of the other performers were the Zac Brown Band who started off playing “America the Beautiful” and ended with their famous song “Chicken Fried.” Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Pink and many more also performed their hits live.
Some artists were not able to be at the ceremony for various reasons.  One artist inparticular was unable to attend, his name is Michael Jackson. Lionel Richie talked about the death of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, and everything that Jackson had accomplished throughout his life.

During the awards a number of artists were involved in a tribute to him.  Celine Dion started off with “Earth Song” in a 3D video, while Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson joined in for the tribute.  Michael Jackson’s two children, Prince and Paris were welcomed out to receive their father’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

A Haiti native, Wyclef Jean, came onto the stage to thank the United States for their support and generosity to help Haiti in their time of need.    At the end of his speech, he introduced Andrea Bocelli and Mary J. Blige who sang a duet to “Bridge Over Troubled Water” to raise funds in support for Haiti.

The evening ended when Taylor Swift won Album of the Year and in her speech she made a reference to the future “This is the story…when we are 80 years old, and we are telling the same stories over and over to our grand kids, and they are so annoyed with us, this is the story we are going to be telling over and over again: In 2010 that we got to win Album Of The Year at the GRAMMY’S!”
