Spirits haunt WCUB-TV

Comments Off 05 November 2009

WCUB-TV became a station of horrors in the spirit of Halloween. The student-run television station at Clarion University was transformed into a haunted house Oct. 28. Tours started at 8 p.m. and continued until 10 p.m. The station was full of all kinds of horrors, including clowns, zombies, evil doctors and, of course, what would a haunted house be without witches?

The event began as a regular tour of a TV station for those who were interested in what exactly goes on into creating a newscast.  Then without warning, a voice came over the loudspeaker announcing that the tourists had been tricked and would never escape alive.
From there, the members of the tour were lead randomly into rooms by the guide, searching for an escape.  The first room was an operating room with a screaming patient and an evil doctor torturing the victim.
From there, the group was lead through a series of rooms with obstacles that included killer clowns, witches and, at the very end, zombies that launched mock attacks on some members of the tour.
Some students involved in the event, went “undercover,” posing as tour members to help with the overall effect.  These included the members of the group who were attacked at the conclusion of the tour, ensuring that none of the real tour members were accidentally harmed.
There was a large turnout for the haunted house.  Many children accompanied by their parents, as well as a few students, came to see what WCUB-TV had to offer as far as scares and hauntings.
Some children appeared a little frightened as they made their way through the rooms, so those who planned the haunted station accomplished the overall feat of creating a scary atmosphere.
The haunted television station was organized and created by staff members and other volunteers who offered a helping hand. The station was transformed over the course of two days before the event.  Those who participated spent a few hours beforehand applying make-up and becoming familiar with their roles in the staged event.
The overall planning of the haunted house was done weeks in advance to ensure the quality of the effects.  The $3 entry fee benefitted the television station. The staff from WCUB-TV expressed its appreciation to those who attended and announced plans to stage a similar event next fall.
