Not many people know this but the Presidential Art Exhibition is taking place in the art gallery in Carlson Library. This is the fifth year that it is taking place. It is run by Vizartz president Emily Byrtus and treasurer Anna Murray. This is the second year for each of them being a part of it.

The art exhibition is a student-juried show with students art on exhibit.  Byrtus and Murray said that this year included a lot of firsts with student work such as: sculptures, jewelry and paintings. The exhibit is open Monday and Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday 1 to 8 p.m.. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday also. The art will be on exhibit thriugh Dec. 2.

Some of the more interesting student art at the exhibit includeds a sculpture made out of human hair, wearing  what looked like a turquoise ceramic wig and scuba mask with  a tube that ran into its chest, also it had diving goggles. This piece of art was made by Chris Friedrick and titled “Breath”. Also there was a marble looking angel in the fetal position holding a cross with very well done copper colored wings, each feather being individually done. This titled “Contemplation” and made by Fred Clark.

One last piece that was really interesting was art done by an exchange student Sundas Rana. She made jewelry and named it “Allah: The Enlightened,”  There were some assorted sculpted bottles and paintings; the exhibit even included some student drawings.
There was one photo that stood out. It was a picture of a river and its banks but was somehow redone so that it had a blue and gray tint titled “Blue River,” it was done by Katy Hiser.

Also don’t forget that when walking into the gallery from the outside there is art in there, such as the interesting hand holding a light bulb with a candle melted on top also done by Chris Friedrick and called “Follow The Light,” or even the muffler art named “Iron Tree,” by Samantha Reynolds, or the dragon simply named “Dragon” done by Chole Boden.

Murray said that this exhibit is “good preparation for students who want to put their pieces into art shows”. Byrtus added to that with “Yeah, its good to add to a students portfolio for use later in life”. They also added “There are a lot of neat things to see at this exhibit”.

Best in show: 3D was Fred Clark, first place: 3D Samantha Reynolds, second place: 3D was Michelle Stronmyer. Mark Ehrensberger got third place   in 3D. Something that people might find interesting is that the dean of the university buys a student piece every year, and this year it was Chloe Boden.
