When you take the pop music singers like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears and mix their styles with ’80s rockers like Queen and David Bowie you get “Lady Gaga.” Over the past year or two Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta or Lady Gaga has become the talk of the media with her pop style of music accentuated with outrageous outfits and strange acts. Before rising to stardom, Gaga spent a lot of time performing in New York’s Lower East side club scene.
Here she spent a lot of time performing in Burlesque shows, which was the early inspiration of her extreme style. After displaying a style much like Queen’s, she received adopted the stage name Lady Gaga after Queen’s hit “Radio Ga Ga.”
After releasing her debut album “The Fame” in 2008, Gaga topped the charts with her singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” However, this was not her first appearance in the mainstream music business, for a few years before her debut album release, Gaga had been writing songs for famous performers including Britney Spears, Akon, The Pussycat Dolls and Fergie.
Gaga at first brought to the music scene what seemed like just another generic pop act with her blonde hair and her sexually attractive appearance. However, she quickly took her act in another direction as she moved past her first two hit singles.
Gaga has lately been reinventing the style of glam rock with her own abstract twist. Inspired by Freddie Mercury, (the front man of Queen) Lady Gaga has been creating quite the buzz on the internet and throughout the rest of the media as she performs shows with some of the most intense outfits in musical history.
Although the style is very odd, perhaps it’s time the pop genre was subject to a new direction. Gaga has been the subject of a lot of gossip lately.
Whether its her red outfits with crown-like hats at the VMAs, music videos with razor blade sunglasses and abstract high-heels, or the speculation of whether or not she is a hermaphrodite, she has certainly caught the public’s attention. After all, what else can you really expect from a former burlesque performer?
It’s about time we got a performer like this, someone who has a thought and lets it fly, regardless of what people will say and the negative attention it may bring.
Some believe that’s why she does what she does, just for attention. Maybe it is, but not exactly in the sense that she wants the attention, but because she likes causing a stir. But maybe she is just what music needs. After all, every generation has its different styles of music; it’s just time to move forward.
